Cruising The Net.....

I was cruising the net and I came across this article on the Asus eee Pad. Now I have talk and answered lots of questions on the pros and cons having tablet or a laptop. The tablet technology is speeding a light speed thanks to the ever shrinking cell phone. And yes, my opinion about tablets is changing! Hence the article below, now the article is on the Asus eee pad and the TF101 docking station, but, all your tablet manufactures have very similar versions. With this type of setup you can have 2 docking stations, one at home and one at the office. I get 3 to 4 calls a month on broken power plugs on laptops and “must have it fix as all my work is on it!” I get over the phone. Well, if your laptop is your work and home computer then read on about the Asus eee Pad and the TF101 Docking Station…

The Asus Eee Pad Transformer TF101 Tablet doesn’t stand on its own. But when paired with its matching keyboard dock, the Transformer morphs into a tablet that strikes an admirable balance between productivity and entertainment. At $399 for the 16GB Wi-Fi model (or $499 for the 32GB Wi-Fi model, prices as of May 6, 2011), the Transformer is the least expensive Android 3.0 tablet to date; and the smaller-capacity version bests Apple’s iPad 2 by $100.

The Design Asus Eee Pad Transformer TF101 Docking Station:

The Docking Station is made to look just like the Transformer itself: it’s got the same dark, brownish-gray/metallic color scheme, and the same geometric pattern on the back. The consistency is nice, making the combination look like they’re made for each other rather than two distinct products. At 6.9 by 10.7 by 0.6 inches (HWD), the Docking

Station’s dimensions are virtually identical to the Transformer.

Unfortunately, at 1.37 pounds, it weighs nearly the same as well. On the face of the Docking Station is a chiclet-style, netbook-sized QWERTY keyboard, a surprisingly large touchpad, and a the hinge where the tablet connects. There’s a sliding silver lock switch, which snaps into place when the tablet is fully docked. Around the sides are two USB ports and an SD card slot, along with a space for the charger—the Docking Station has its own rechargeable battery inside, which Asus says will add up to 6.5 hours of battery life to the Transformer. When it’s docked, the Transformer can actually charge via the Docking Station, so when you take it off you’ll likely have more battery than when you sat down.

The hardest thing about using the Docking Station is actually docking the Transformer. The slot that holds the tablet has raised sides to support the device, so it’s hard to see the raised 40-pin connector that plugs

into the Transformer. That means you’re blindly shoving the tablet into the Docking Station, and it takes some serious finagling the first few times. Once you’ve got everything lined up, it takes a serious shove to get it connected—you’ll know it’s in there when the silver tab slides to the right.

The upside to the difficult docking process is that it’s a super-secure connection. Once the Transformer is sitting in the Docking Station, it really does become indistinguishable from a netbook or laptop. It can fold in half like a laptop, and be carried in closed-clamshell mode. When you want to disconnect the tablet, slide the locking mechanism to the left, and it pops out easily.

Using the Docking Station:

Though a 92-percent-of-standard keyboard sounds big enough, the difference is stunning. If you’ve used a netbook for any length of time, however, this keyboard will feel immediately familiar. The biggest advantage of the Docking Station over any other keyboard is that it’s loaded with Honeycomb-specific keys. There’s a dedicated Search button, lots of media and brightness buttons, a Back button, Lock and Unlock keys, and more.

Thanks to the addition of a trackpad, you really don’t ever need to touch the screen. As soon as you dock the Transformer, a cursor pops up on the screen, and you use it as you would any other mouse. The touchpad is extremely responsive and fast, and even includes useful features like two-finger scrolling. This is a huge advantage over the iPad’s keyboard dock accessory ($69, 3.5 stars), which has no trackpad. In fact, the iPad

cannot be paired with any type of mouse, as the screen can only be operated by touch.

The Asus Eee Pad Transformer TF101 Docking Station really does make the Transformer into a capable laptop. Once you get used to the size of the keyboard, there’s little you can’t do with the device thanks to the included productivity software, Polaris Office. The docking process is awkward, but it’s not a deal-breaker. In the sea of me-too Honeycomb tablets that’s currently coming to market, the Docking Station does much to separate The Asus Eee Pad Transformer TF101 from the pack, and help it bridge the consumption and creation gap.

A lot of you fine folks out there are using windows XP home or pro edition and don’t or cant change to something new. So the best thing to do is keep your OS in tip top shape:

1: run your anti virus program every day

2: run Clean Out every time you get of the internet.

3: DO NOT DO MICROSOFT® UPDATES!!! It will pollute windows to point IT WILL RUN SLOW. Note on this.. Only if it is very critical, most of the support for XP is no more.

4: Check and see if there are new updates for your video card and or your bios (if your video card is built in on the mother board)

5: Down by the clock, right click on those items that you are not using and turn them off. You will free up more resources.

6: set you paging file size to a higher setting to a minimum of 1500 and max of 4000

7: Uninstall, using "Add or Remove Programs" in the control panel, any and all not used programs, games, all those tool bars (great source for virus & spam ware).

8: Run RegVac to clean out your registry about once a week, especially after all those uninstalls. You can get here; http://www.regvac.com/regvac.htm

9: run defraq on drive C (go to My Computer, right click on Drive C and click on tools) at least once a month. It will keep your drive running a lot efficiently.

Microsoft Patch; must have!

Security Patches

MS11-037/KB2544893 - Important (XP, Vista, W7)/Low (2003, 2008, 2008R2): The way Windows handles the MHTML protocol can result in "information disclosure" (it looks like it would be similar in effect to a cross site scripting attack). You will want to patch this on your usual schedule.

MS11-038/KB2476490 - Critical (XP, Vista, W7, 2003, 2008, 2008 R2): Image files in the WMF format can be used to perform remote code execution attacks, thanks to a vulnerability in the OLE Automation subsystem, this patch fixes it. Since it is easy to get a Web browser to display an image file, you should apply this patch immediately.

MS11-039/KB2514842 - Critical (XP, Vista, W7, 2003, 2008, 2008 R2): A security hole in the handling of Silverlight is allowing Silverlight and XAML Browser Applications (XBAP's) to be used to perform remote code execution attacks. Isn't the whole point of Silverlight to make these things harder? Install this patch as soon as you can. Also, there are a lot of known issues with the patch, check out the KB article before installing it.

MS11-040/KB2520426 - Critical (Threat Management Gateway 2010 Client): The TMG client has a flaw that allows remote code execution attacks to be performed. If you use the TMG client, you should install this patch.

MS11-041/KB2525694 - Critical (Vista, W7, 2008, 2008 R2)/Important (XP, 2003): Problems with the OpenType font handler can allow remote code execution and escalation of privilege attacks. This patch closes those holes. Since an attacker can point a Web page to a network share to get a font file, you will want to close the hole with this patch as soon as you can.

MS11-042/KB2535512 - Critical (XP, 2003), Important (Vista, W7, 2008, 2008 R2): A flaw in the way Windows handles DFS processing can allow DoS and remote code execution attacks to be performed. Of course, you should be blocking DFS at the firewall, but this is still a concerning issue that you will want to patch immediately.

MS11-043/KB2536276 - Critical (XP, Vista, W7, 2003, 2008, 2008 R2): SMB packets can be used to exploit a vulnerability and perform remote code execution attacks. Like the DFS patch, you should be blocking this at the firewall, but you will still want to install this patch quickly.

MS11-044/KB2538814 - Critical (XP, Vista, W7, 2003, 2008, 2008 R2): A flaw in the .NET Framework and the XBAP handling system can allow applications to run code that they are not allowed to run. This is a critical issue and should be treated as an emergency patch scenario. The patch has some known issues that you should review first, though.

When Lightning Strikes!

I have been in this business for over 20 yrs and I can emphatically say “LIGHTNING HAS A MIND OF ITS OWN!” I have seen systems with 4 power surge protectors and lightning came trough the electrical socket jump all 4 protectors and fry the computer.
